This Cookie Policy explains how EARNS & BARNS LLC uses cookies and similar technologies on earnsandbarns.com (the “Site”). It complements our Privacy Policy.
1. Summary
2. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device by your browser when you visit a website. Cookies let sites remember information between visits, such as your preferences or whether you're logged in. “Similar technologies” covers things like localStorage, sessionStorage, and pixels — we cover all of them under one umbrella in this policy.
Cookies can be first-party (set by Earns & Barns) or third-party (set by a vendor whose content runs on the page). They can be session cookies (deleted when you close the browser) or persistentcookies (kept until they expire or you delete them).
3. Categories we use
We classify cookies into the standard four categories. We only use the first two.
| Category | Purpose | Consent needed? | Used on this site? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Make the site work — security, your consent choice itself. | No (legitimate interest) | Yes |
| Analytics | Help us count visits and improve content. Aggregated, no profiles. | Yes — opt-in | Only if you accept |
| Functional / preferences | Remember settings like theme or language. | Yes — opt-in | No |
| Marketing / advertising | Build advertising profiles, retarget across sites. | Yes — opt-in | No — never |
4. Cookie inventory
The complete list of cookies and similar storage we set on the Site:
| Name | Category | Type | Purpose | Expiry | Provider |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
eb.cookie.consent.v1 | Strictly necessary | localStorage | Remembers your consent choice so the banner doesn't reappear on every page. | Persistent (until you clear site data) | Earns & Barns (first-party) |
_pa_id (anonymous) | Analytics | First-party cookie | Aggregate page-view counting if you accept analytics. No cross-site tracking, no fingerprinting. | 30 days | Plausible Analytics (EU) |
That's it. There are no Google Analytics cookies, no Meta Pixel, no LinkedIn Insight Tag, no TikTok Pixel, no Hotjar, no FullStory. The Site does not embed third-party social widgets (no live Twitter timelines, no Facebook Like button) that would set their own cookies.
5. Third-party cookies
We currently use one third-party vendor that may set storage in your browser:
- Plausible Analytics — a privacy-friendly analytics provider hosted in the EU. Plausible is cookieless by default; when we enable its optional per-visitor de-duplication, it stores an anonymous ID on first-party storage that expires after 30 days. Plausible does not share data with any other party. See their privacy policy.
If we ever add a new third-party vendor that uses cookies, we'll update this inventory at least 14 days before the vendor goes live and re-prompt for consent where required.
6. Your consent choice
When you first visit the Site, we show a consent banner with two clear, equally weighted options: Reject non-essential and Accept all. We do not use dark patterns, pre-checked boxes, or “legitimate interest” sliders to nudge you toward acceptance. Your choice is remembered in the eb.cookie.consent.v1 entry described above.
7. Browser-level controls
You can also block or delete cookies directly in your browser. Doing so may affect how some websites work, but the Site will continue to function (only your consent-banner state will be reset).
8. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
The Site honors the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal. If your browser sends GPC, we automatically record a “reject non-essential” choice for cookies and treat your visit as an opt-out of the sale or sharing of personal information under CCPA / CPRA — even though we don't sell or share in the first place.
The older Do Not Track (DNT) header is no longer maintained by browser vendors, but if your browser sends it we treat it identically to GPC for as long as it's supported.
9. Changes to this policy
We'll update this Cookie Policy if our use of cookies or similar technologies changes. The version date at the top reflects the most recent revision. For material changes we'll re-prompt for consent.
